DepEd ipinaalalang ‘zones of peace’ ang mga paaralan

MANILA, Philippines- Pinaalalahanan ng Department of Education nitong Lunes ang  mga  field officials at school heads na mahigpit na ipatupad ang national policy framework sa mga mag-aaral sa mga paaralan bilang ‘zones of peace’, matapos makita ang mga nakaunipormeng tauhan sa loob ng paaralan sa Pangasinan sa unang araw ng face-to-face classes sa bansa.

Nilinaw ng DepEd na bilang panggkalahatang tuntunin, kailangang malaya ang mga paaralan sa presensya ng mga armadong tauhan. Kung kinakailangan, magtatalaga ng armed force protection units mula sa gobyerno, malapit sa paaralan at hindi sa loob nito.

Pinuna ni assistant minority leader at ACT Teachers Representative France Castro slammed ang pagpasok ng military personnel sa Longos Elementary School nitong Lunes.

“Schools should be safe spaces for learning and free thinking. The entry of armed police and military personnel inside the elementary school can cause trauma to children, especially kindergarten students,” giit ni Castro.

“We are appalled by the sight of having police and military personnel with long armed weapons inside the classrooms. Their presence would also have negative effects on our teachers and other school personnel from hampering in the fulfilment of their duties to harassment and intimidation,” dagdag pa niya.

Hinikayat din ni Castro also urged ang DepEd na imbestigahan kung bakit nakapasok ang mga armadong pulis at militar sa loob ng paaralan.

Tugon ng DepEd, parte ito ng seguridad ng isang lokal na opisyal na bumisita sa paaralan.

“DepEd shall work together with our stakeholders to ensure that our guidelines on Schools as Zones of Peace, where our learners feel safe, secured, and nurtured, are observed,” pahayag nito. RNT/SA
