Temporary removal sa taripa sa electric vehicles, suportado ng DTI

MANILA, Philippines – Nagpahayag ng suporta si Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual sa pansamantalang pag-aalis sa import tariffs para sa electric vehicles sa loob ng limang taon.

Ani Pascual, inisyal na ipinanukala ng DTI ang pag-aalis ng taripa upang mahikayat ang mga Pinoy na lumipat na sa paggamit ng electric vehicles at mapababa ang presyo nito.

“[The] DTI proposed the temporary removal of tariff on EVs for a period of five years. [The agency] believes that the measure will help develop the local EV market and encourage consumers to consider shifting to EVs for a cleaner and greener transportation option,” pahayag ni Pascual.

“The temporary elimination of tariffs is seen to drive down the purchase of EVs, thereby generating increased demand and encouraging investments in EV charging stations,” dagdag pa niya.

Nauna nang naglabas si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ng Executive Order No. 12 na pansamantalang nagbabago ng rate sa import duty sa electric vehicles, parts at components.

Binanggit ni Pascual ang pahayag ng think tank na Stratbase ADR Institute President Dindo Manhit na ang EO 12 “should be revised to include e-motorcycles in the tax break as it is ‘discriminatory’ and rich-favored.”

Sa Pebrero 21, 2024, ang EO ay sasailalim pa sa review ng National Economic and Development Authority kung saan ang mga rekomendasyon sa posibleng pag-amyenda ay ipapasa sa Pangulo para sa approval nito. RNT/JGC
