Sulat ni Degamo sa House ethics panel: Teves, patalsikin na!

MANILA, Philippines – Kinumpirma ni House Secretary General Reginald Velasco nitong Lunes, Marso 27, na pinadalhan siya ni Pamplona, Negros Oriental Mayor Janice Degamo ng sulat na humihiling sa Kamara na patalsikin na si suspended Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr.

Ang naturang sulat ay ipinadala ni Degamo sa House Committee on Ethics and Privileges bandang alas-7:18 ng umaga.

“We referred it to the committee in charge, the Committee on Ethics and they will have to decide what to do with the petition kasi sila nga ‘yung may jurisdiction dito,” ani Velasco sa isang panayam.

Ang Kongreso ay kasalukuyan ngayong naka-recess ngunit “committees may continue to work. So the Committee on Ethics can meet to consider this petition or letter of Mayor Degamo,” paliwanag ni Velasco.

Aniya, posible ring magpasa ang Ethics Committee ng findings nito at rekomendasyon sa pagbabalik ng sesyon sa Kongreso sa Mayo 8.

Matatandaan na iniuugnay si Teves sa pagpatay kay Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, asawa ng alkalde, noong Marso 4.

Itinanggi naman ni Teves ang kaugnayan sa krimen at sinabing hindi siya umuuwi sa Pilipinas dahil sa takot nito sa kanyang seguridad.

Noong nakaraang linggo, nagkaisa ang Kamara na suspendihin ang mambabatas ng 60 araw dahil sa hindi pagpapakita nito sa House proceedings.

Nang tanungin kung ano ang magiging epekto ng liham ni Degamo sa suspensyon ni Teves, sagot ni Velasco:

“It won’t affect kasi that has been decided upon by the Committee on Ethics and the plenary on March 22. Wala, walang epekto ‘yang letter ni Mayor Janice Degamo.”

“By practice kasi, the suspension does not affect the office nor the district, service to the district, the constituents of his district. We will, the speaker will decide on who will be the caretaker. They are now considering this order from the speaker. Hopefully, in the next few days, we will have a decision who will be the caretaker of the district of Congressman Arnie Teves during the time of his suspension,” dagdag niya.

Maliban sa sulat ni Degamo, nakatanggap din ang Kamara ng liham mula sa abogado ni Teves na si Atty. Ferdinand Topacio na umaapela sa suspensyon sa kongresista.

“We referred it to the Committee on Ethics, again Committee on Ethics and to our Legal Department for further study. Again, it’s up to the Committee on Ethics what to do with this letter from Attorney Topacio,” ani Velasco. RNT/JGC
