VP Sara: K to 12 studes huhubugin bilang ‘peace builders’

MANILA, Philippines- Bumubuo ang Department of Education (DepEd) ng programa para sa basic education curriculum na magtuturo sa Kinder to Grade 12 students na maging peace builders sa mga komunidad, ayon kay Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte nimtong Huwebes.

Sa panayam, sinabi ni Duterte na nakita niya kung paano masira ng buhay ng ilang kabataan dahil sa pag-anib sa New People’s Army (NPA). Aniya, ang high school students, partikular ang Indigenous Peoples, ang karaniwang nire-recruit.

Dahil dito, sinabi niya na sa kanyang panunungkulan bilang DepEd chief, ang layunin ng ahensya ay hindi magkaroon ng student dropouts dahil sa pagsali sa rebel groups—hindi lamang sa NPA, kundi sa mga organisasyon na nagsusulong ng violent extremism at terrorism.

May working title na “National Culture for Peace,” binigyang-diin niya na nilalayon ng programa na humubog ng basic education graduates na peace builders at marunogn tumukoy ng tama at mali.

“Dito, gusto namin na masali sa ating basic education ang pagtuturo kung paano maging peace builder ang isang bata from Kindergarten to Grade 12, so that when they leave basic education, they are our advocates for peace doon sa ating mga communities,” ani Duterte.

“‘Yun ‘yung gusto namin gawin for the Department of Education na they can discern kung ano ‘yung totoo at hindi totoo and they understand…na, ‘Nililinlang niya ako sa sinasabi niya,’ and they can say na, ‘Oh, this is the truth,’” dagdag niya.

Sinabi pa niya na nakikipag-ugnayan na ang Education Department sa Commission on Higher Education (CHED), na iminungkahing magpatupad ng Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at sanayin ang mga estudyante na manilbihan sa bansa.

Nitong Setyembre, nakipagkita si Duterte sa mga pinuno ng security sector “to strengthen existing coordination and enhance interagency cooperation on issues concerning our national security and the country’s development.”

Inihayag niya noon na hindi dapat pakitaan ng awa ang mga terorista at mga kriminal. RNT/SA
