Solon: ‘Estate tax amnesty bill’ i-certify as urgent

MANILA, Philippines- Nanawagan si House of Representatives Deputy Speaker, Batangas 6th District Rep. Ralph Recto, nitong Huwebes kay Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na i-certify as urgent ang House bill na nagpapalawig ng deadline ng estate tax amnesty sa loob ng dalawa pang taon.

Sinabi ni Recto na isang “act of kindness” ang extension sa seniors na naantala na naantala ang pag-avail ng amnesty dahil sa pandemya.

“A one-sentence letter from the President supporting a one-line bill will make this a reality,” ani Recto.

Sinabi niya na ang mga tao ay makatitipid ng “billions while the government will earn billions” sa pamamagitan lamang ng paglilipat ng June 14, 2023 deadline sa June 14, 2025.

Binigyang-diin ni Recto ang epekto ng coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) bilang ppangunahing rason ng mga problema ng mga Pilipino.

Sinabi niya na hindi nakauwi ang mga Pilipino sa ibang bansa para sa proper documentation ng kanilang ari-arian dahil sa mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng lockdown.

“Putting a deceased loved one’s properties in order was also a casualty of Covid,” ani Recto.

Ayon pa sa mambabatas, isa pang justification para sa panukalang pagpapalawig ay ang lower-than-projected government collections mula sa programa.

Nang ikasa ang RA 11213 noong 2019, “the forecast revenue was in the PHP6 billion to PHP8 billion range, but actual take as of end of 2021 was PHP5.5 billion,” aniya.

“The idea was to unlock the potential of idle assets left by the deceased so these can be used for productive purposes by the heirs,” pahayag ng mambabatas.

Sa Kamara, pinangunahan ni Speaker Martin Romualdez ang chamber leaders sa paghahain ng House Bill 7409, na naglalayon na palawigin pa ng dalawang taon ang deadline para sa pag-apply para sa estate tax amnesty.

“This great bill by the Speaker represents the will of the grassroots as canvassed by their district representatives. PBBM should certify it for urgent passage,” ani Recto. RNT/SA
