Pananaw sa climate action, int’l situation tinalakay nina Marcos, Guterres

MANILA, Philippines- Nagpalitan ng kani-kaniyang  pananaw at opinyon sina Pangulong  Ferdinand  Marcos Jr. at United Nations Secretary General António Guterres ukol sa international situation at maging sa climate action initiatives.

Nangyari ito sa isang pulong sa sidelines ng  77th Session ng United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Naka-post sa UN website na pinag-usapan nina Pangulong Marcos at Guterres ang larangan ng “UN cooperation and support.”

Nauna rito, umapela si  Guterres  sa mga mayayamang bansa na buwisan ang ‘windfall profits’ ng  fossil fuel firms, ang pera ay  dapat na i- redirected  upang tulungan ang mga bansa na labis na naapektuhan ng climate crisis at iyong mga mamamayan ay patuloy na nakikipaglaban sa mataas na presyo ng pagkain at enerhiya.

Giit pa ni Guterres  na ang  “fossil fuel industry is feasting on hundreds of billions of dollars in subsidies and windfall profits while household budgets shrink and our planet burns.”

Sa kabilang dako, sinabi naman ni Pangulong Marcos sa high level general debate  na ang  climate change  ay itinuturing na “greatest threat” na nakakaapekto  sa iba’t ibang bansa at ang epekto nito ay “uneven and reflect historical injustice.”

Hinikayat din ng Pangulo ang  mga industrialized countries na  “immediately fulfill their obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement to cut their greenhouse gas emissions, provide climate financing and technology transfer for adaptation for the most vulnerable  and developing countries to lead by example.” Kris Jose
