Humanitarian response sa Turkey, Syria tatagal ng ilang buwan – grupo

TURKEY – Posibleng tumagal pa ng ilang buwan ang humanitarian response sa mga lugar na napinsala ng malakas na lindol sa Turkey at Syria.

Sa huling ulat, umakyat na sa 21,000 ang death toll ng magnitude 7.8 na lindol na tumama nitong Lunes, Pebrero 6.

“In terms of the length of the response, this will go on for months,” ayon kay Paul McPhun, director for Southeast Asia and the Pacific ng Doctors Without Borders, sa panayam ng ANC.

“Critical infrastructures have been destroyed. Access to essential medical services is massively disrupted. People are displaced. They don’t have homes… The impact of this is not short-term at all. This is the time where Syria and Turkey need the help of every individual,” pagpapatuloy niya.

Maliban dito, may mga inaasahan din na pagsubok pagdating sa logistics at seguridad sa isasagawang relief efforts.

“It’s difficult because roads are damaged. It’s hard to move around. On top of that, there’s also security concern. You can’t move freely and easily around this region,” sinabi pa ni McPhun.

“We are now shifting our efforts toward outreach. Putting together mobile clinics, trying to reach communities that have been affected but haven’t received assistance,” aniya.

Sa ngayon, itinuturing na kritikal na ng mga eksperto na makakita pa sila ng mga survivor lalo na’t lumampas na sa itinakda nilang 72-hour mark para sa pagsagip sa mga na-trap pa rin sa guho.

“As the number of days and hours go by, the chances of survival now is increasingly lower,” paliwanag ni McPhun. RNT/JGC
