MANILA, Philippines- Isang grupo ng mga education workers ang humirit ng P10,000 poll service pay sanhi ng mas mahabang oras ng botohan, partikular na para sa chairpersons ng Electoral Board.

Ayon sa Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) nitong Huwebes, ang mas mahabang voting hours na inanunsyo ng Commission on Election (Comelec) “justifies the need to substantially raise the pay of frontliners in the coming elections.”

Tinanggap naman ng ACT ang pahayag ng  Comelec na babayaran ng karagdagang P3,000 ang electoral board at support staff sanhi ng mas mahabang voting hours sa eleksyon sa 2022.

“We’re happy to hear that they will increase all poll workers’ pay by P3,000, but we hope that the government will heed our specific demands,” pahayag ni ACT Secretary General Raymond Basilio.

“As we all know, the 2022 election are expected to be rife with many challenges,” he said. “Our teachers who will be serving in this important day should be well-compensated and should have sufficient support,” dagdag pa niya.

Gayundin, nanawagan ang ACT na itaas sa P9,000 at P8,000 ang bayad sa electoral board members at DepEd Supervisor Official (DESO), at dagdagan din ang allowances, welfare, at protective measures sa lahat ng poll workers.

Hirit pa ng ACT, dagdagan ang travel allowance na P1,000 at gawin itong P3,000 para sa mga nasa urban areas o city proper at P5,000 para sa mga nasa rural areas.

Giit ni Basilio, ito ay dahil “transportation are a lot harder and more costly now since the pandemic hit and with the rising oil prices.”

Humiling din ang ACT para sa karagdagang P500 na hazard pay sanhi ng “perilous context” ng Eleksyon 2022 dahil sa sitwasyon ng pampublikong kalusugan sa bansa.

Dagdag pa rito, humingi rin ang grupo na ihanda ng Comelec ang overtime pay para sa serbisyong lalampas sa 24 oras sa araw ng halalan, na ayon kay Basilio ay problema noong mga nakaraang eleksyon.

Inudyukan ng ACT ang Comelec na tugunan ang mga hiling ng grupo sa lalong madaling panahon.

“It is best that these matters of fair compensation be settled immediately, of course with the help of our legislators who are tackling Comelec’s 2022 budget,”ayon kay Basilio.

“Ensuring sufficient pay and protection for poll workers shall be part of the priorities of our duly elected lawmakers,” dagdag pa niya. RNT/SA
