Ex-poll commissioner sa Comelec: Voter registration sa MECQ areas payagan

Manila, Philippines — Hiniling ni Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal a Comelec na amyendahan ang kanilang resolusyon na payagan ang voter registration sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

“To date, the number of new registrants is much, much lower than desired and there are thousands more who are willing to reactivate their voter registration in the hope of being able to vote in the upcoming national and local elections,” saad ni Larrazabal.

Sa kabila ng sinasabi ng Comelec na naabot na nila ang target na 60 milyong registered voters, ipinunto ng ilang grupo na base sa datos ng Philippine Statistics Authority, 73 milyon ang kwalipikadong bumoto sa May 2022 elections.

“[A]s our democracy is anchored on the Right of Suffrage protected by no less than our Constitution, it is my humble submission that the Comelec, by analogy, is also an institution which provides not only essential, but critical services at this point in time,” lahad ni Larrazabal.
